Maxwell Air Force Base
Maxwell Air Force Base is home to a proud tradition of aviators and airpower advocates, dating all the way back to the Wright Brothers' flying school, which was built on this site in 1910. As the host unit for Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, the 42nd Air Base Wing's mission is critical to national security; it provides the foundation for success for Air University, the 908th Airlift Wing; the Business and Enterprise Systems Directorate; and more than thirty tenant units. The Wing ensures Airmen are ready to deploy in support of U.S. military operations worldwide and takes a proactive approach to promoting their professional and personal growth. With a population of more than 12,500 active duty, reserve, civilian and contractor personnel, the Maxwell-Gunter community has a significant economic and cultural impact on the River Region. In 2024, Maxwell Air Force Base was proud to host Beyond the Horizon Air and Space Show featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels aerial demonstration team.
Featured Artist - Barbara Binford Davis
Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Barbara has painted since the age of fourteen. She is a 1982 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School. She holds a B.A in Fine Art from Auburn University Montgomery. Barbara worked primarily in the banking industry while pursuing art as a vocation with the hope of eventually becoming a full-time artist. After years of studying and painting, her dream of working as a full-time artist was realized in 2010. She has been the recipient of numerous regional and national awards for her artwork, and it can be found in galleries throughout Alabama, Florida and North Carolina. www.barbaradavisart.com
