Summary:

The speech therapist is responsible for evaluating, planning, and implementing speech therapy services and in accordance with Center’s policies and procedures.  In addition, he/she is expected to participate (voluntarily or upon request) in the manning of existing Center programs and the development of new Center programs.

Basic Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

A. Ethical Standards of Practice

  1. Delivers services consistent with established Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley Mission, Values, and Philosophy.
  2. Maintains patient confidentiality and respects the rights and dignity of all individuals.
  3. Adhere to Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley Code of Ethics.  Comply with all Federal, State and local laws and regulations.  
  4. Complies with current ASHA Code of ethics, state licensure laws, and all prevailing Federal, State and local laws regulations.

    B. Evaluations  
  1. Screens, consults and/or evaluates patients upon request/referral.
  2. Performs evaluations/screenings within Center’s formats of  
                     i.    IDE
                     ii.   Single discipline
                     iii.  Reviews relevant reports to facilitate assessment.
                     iv.  Selects appropriate evaluation tools and implements them, as indicated. 
  3. Makes appropriate recommendations from evaluation results.
  4. Writes evaluations in accordance with Center policy.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be licensed or license eligible as defined by ASHA and Illinois Board of Professional Regulation.
  2. Must have a Master’s degree or a Speech Therapy certificate from a school approved by ASHA.
  3. New graduates, must make application for State licensure within one month of completion of requirements for ASHA Clinical Competency Certification in Speech-Language Pathology.
  4. New graduates, must have registered for the ASHA exam within 3 months of hire, and completed within 9 months of hire.
  5. Must maintain EI certification or eligibility.
  6. Must maintain current CPR certification.
  7. Must maintain teacher certification for the State of Illinois.
