If there’s a will, there’s a way

Michael with fountain in the backgroundAfter losing his right arm in farming accident, Michael continued his dairy farm business in Ackworth, Iowa, for 14 years.  During that time, Easter Seals Iowa provided support and made adaptations to gear shifts on Michael’s equipment. Michael was so moved by the experience that he became an advocate for other farm families involved in accidents causing a disability. Through Easter Seals Iowa, he visited farmers and family members in their homes or in the hospital, sharing what they could expect and providing hope and support.

Michael decided to change his career path, obtained a Computer Science degree from Simpson College and has worked at DuPont Pioneer for 25 years, currently as senior functional analyst. He continues to enjoy giving back to Easter Seals Iowa by volunteering at Camp Sunnyside, whether it’s having fun playing the guitar for campers or working hard painting, trimming and planting flower beds.

“I learned what’s important in life and that you can’t give up. I can’t say enough good about Easter Seals Iowa. They made all the difference for me,” Michael says.
