Laila's Story

L. Jones

How did you discover that your child had special needs?
Laila, and her twin brother Landen, were born at 24 weeks and were micro-preemies. Being born at 24 weeks and in the NICU for a few months, Laila needed a little bit more help in reaching milestones in her development. She was also diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy a little over a year ago.

How did you learn about Easterseals Early Intervention?
While the twins were still in the NICU we were referred to BabyNet to help provide therapies that would help Laila reach her milestones, we chose Easterseals.

How do you feel your child is doing now in comparison to when they first started their early Intervention journey?
Laila is doing so well now! When early intervention and therapies first started it took a little time for Laila to begin to learn and try new skills. It seems like once she hit 2 years old things really took off. She’s able to be more independent now and loves to learn and try new activities and skills.

What kinds of support have been most helpful to you and why?
We’re grateful for the donations we receive, especially the clothes, diapers and such that are able to get a few times a year. As a single parent, that really helps out! Laila has learned so many life skills through Early Intervention, and loves early intervention visits and all of the therapies that have been set up through Easterseals. The fun, little projects that Laila, and her twin Landen, get to do each week have helped her to become more confident and much more independent!

Why should people support Easterseals?
So that they are able to continue to make such a difference in the lives of children with special needs, and support their families.
