Big things are happening at Camp Stand By Me! In 2023, we made historical renovations to the beloved theater at our Recreation Center, incorporating professional stage lighting, a brand-new sound system, an improved ADA accessible ramp, and incredible new technological enhancements.

The introduction of these new features is pivotal for enhancing the quality and accessibility of talent shows, movie nights, and various events hosted at camp. Professional lighting and sound systems play essential roles in improving accessibility for stage productions. These enhancements will boost visibility, leverage lighting cues to accommodate those with hearing impairments, ensure balanced sound levels, and craft an immersive experience that is inclusive and exciting for individuals of all abilities.

The grand opening of the theater was held in March of 2024. We extended invitations to campers, staff, and community members to join us in the unveiling of these remarkable changes. The energy was electrifying — setting the tone for a bright future of camp ahead! This project was made possible thanks to a donation commemorating our dearly beloved, long-time camper, Cynthia Fischer. Cynthia attended Camp Stand By Me for decades and held a dear place in our community's heart. She radiated warmth and vibrant energy, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered — truly embodying the spirit of camp. We are thrilled to memorialize Cynthia through a stage that will go on to inspire countless stories, dreams, laughter and memories for generations to come.

Since 1974, the heart-warming atmosphere of Camp Stand By Me has been cultivated by the generous contributions, and kindness of our community, making it a truly magical place. The property on Vaughn Bay was donated to Easterseals Washington as a memorial for Dorothy Kellogg, who had lived with polio since she was just two years old. Dorothy lived a happy life despite facing adversities. She enjoyed riding horses, gardening, and the great outdoors with her husband throughout her adult life. After Dorothy’s passing, her sister graciously gifted the property to Easterseals Washington to ensure that other individuals with disabilities could have the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors just as much as Dorothy did.
