Healthy Snack

Daily snack time within the classroom is designed to provide Easterseals School Program students with a broad range of nutritionally sound eating and drinking experiences within a small and supportive peer group structure.

Snack time also provides students with an opportunity to practice individual therapeutic feeding goals. Food allergies and specific dietary restrictions are accommodated.  Under the guidance of the speech-language pathologist and occupational therapist, the classroom team collaborates on appropriate choices from the following food groups:

  • Whole grains
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Dairy
  • Drinks
  • Varying textures such as chewy, crunchy, soft foods

The student is encouraged to interact with foods in non-threatening ways; students are never required to eat or drink.
