Silver Spring, MD — Easterseals DC MD VA is pleased to announce the appointment of Aaron Kaufman to its Honorary Board of Directors. Kaufman is a lifelong disability rights advocate, who himself has cerebral palsy. He is also a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, serving on the Judiciary Committee.

“Joining the Easterseals DC MD VA Honorary Board is a homecoming of sorts. I started as a high school intern at the Easterseals National Office of Public Affairs in Washington, DC. It’s where I first learned about the life-changing work Easterseals does every day,” said Kaufman.

Kaufman is currently the Senior Manager of Legislative Affairs at the Jewish Federations of North America, where he focuses on disability and poverty.

Prior to this position, Kaufman lobbied for The Arc Maryland, advocating for Marylanders with intellectual and developmental disabilities. His experience includes working in the offices of then-Congressman Chris Van Hollen and former Senator Evan Bayh. He has also worked as an instructor for Project SEARCH Montgomery, a job-training program for young adults with significant disabilities.

He is involved with various organizations, serving on numerous boards and committees. At present, Kaufman is on the Executive Committee of the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes, as well as the Board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. He previously served as Vice Chair of the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council and was a Board Member of the Union for Reform Judaism, the National Association of Developmental Disabilities Council, and Disability Rights Maryland.

Kaufman holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies with multiple honors from the University of Maryland. He lives in and represents Montgomery County.
