Caramel Sauce

Delicious Caramel Sauce made from dates!

Making your own caramel sauce is easier than you think and offers a healthier alternative! Dates are packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They add a touch of sweetness without the refined sugars.

Fiber is essential for digestive health, especially during Halloween when sugary treats abound. Dates, key ingredient in this homemade caramel sauce, provide a generous dose of fiber to help balance your diet and prevent common Halloween-related digestive issues like constipation.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pitted dates, firmly packed (~14 large dates)
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions:

  1. Add dates to a blender or food processor and cover with boiling water. Let them soak for 15-30 minutes to soften.
  2. Remove and discard ½ cup of the soaking water.
  3. Add maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt to the blender or food processor.
  4. Blend until smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed.
  5. Gradually add water back to the blender, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
Notes:
Use this caramel sauce as a healthy alternative dip for pretzels, crackers, and fruit such as apples for a sweet and
savory snack. This also makes a wonderful glaze on proteins and roasted vegetables like pork chops and carrots!
